In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, in Central Africa,
the Luba ethnic group is targeted for ethnic cleansing in
the Katanga region.
The first expulsion occurred in 1961-1962. The second expulsion
in 1993. They were forced to go back to the province of
origin which was not ready to receive such an enormous number
of people. Oriental Kasai province was overwhelmed with
the new arrivals. Many died on the way and some arrived
by train in Mwene Ditu, a destitute crossroads.
In

education. Father Jacques Kabengele, school principal, sounded
the SOS to search for donors to support the education of
the children who are so eager to learn. Bio-chemist, Dr.
Musau Wakabongo, a member of the Luba tribe, contacted Lillian
Perry to solicit support from The PhiLill Foundation. The
Foundation donated $635.00 to the Abbe Lazare Mpoyi in November
of 2007, specifically to purchase digital cameras for the
school.
The PhiLill Foundation is partnering with the San Bernardino
Valley Chapter of The Links, Inc., and Leja Bulela, Inc.
(an NGO made up of American immigrants of the Congolese
Diaspora) in this project, now referred to as The Bright
Beginning.
Our Response to the Call for Help from The Congo Goals
The
PhiLill Foundation will bring hope to the refugee children
by giving them the funding needed to develop their minds
through education, because they are the leaders of tomorrow,
and the hope for peace in the DRC.
Objectives
To pay for the education of orphaned elementary school children
and youth at the Abbe Lazare Mpoyi Complex School in Bena
Kabamba (Oriental Kasai) at the cost of $6.00/student per
year.
To heighten awareness of the desparate call to meet the
needs of the orphaned children in the Democratic Republic
of the Congo to PhiLill Foundation donors and Phil Perry
fans to provide technology (cameras, hardware & software)
to videotape, photograph, and document the needs, and progress
of the school and its students, and strengthen Father Jacques
Kabengele's ability to insure oversight to supporters, including
the PhiLill Foundation.
To pay for the shipping costs of cameras, hardware, software,
and educational materials sent to the school in the DRC.
We expect increased enrollment and retention at the school.
We will identify and offer extra support to two students
who show promise in the sciences (one male & one female).

"...Check
out the MAGIC album - the one we call the 911 album. September
11th was the day Phil's MAGIC album hit the shelves in record
stores after receving numerous radio ads in the weeks before.
Phil was to perform at the WTC that very day in two lunch
hour concerts (between 11 and 1) - he would do this each
year for CD 101 FM, followed by two sold out cruises around
the Statue of Liberty in the evening. The preceding year
in 2000, Phil had performed at the World Trade Center on
September 5th. He always drew huge lunch hour crowds.
Through a series of miraculous interventions, God spared
Phil Perry this disaster, and his plane was grounded in
Chicago. His sound check was scheduled during the time of
the attacks. Only his Sound Tech was stuck in New Jersey,
as Phil had decided to fly everyone in that morning from
Chicago where they had rehearsed the new show.
The MAGIC album is an awesome work that was buried in the
debris at Ground Zero. I'll put a couple of Phil's originals
on his page so you can hear the heart of this man."

the terror of 911, that dreadful Tuesday that I was supposed
to perform two shows with my band at the World Trade Center
during the lunch hours. This was a regular gig for me, having
performed there a year earlier on September 5th. I guess God
just wasn’t ready for me, as my plane was grounded in
Chicago, saving my band and all of our families from the personal
pain and grief of the disaster. That was also the day, my
6th solo album – MAGIC – hit the shelves of major

the terrific view of the Hollywood sign, surviving the noise
attack at the Virgin Megastore (it was pretty loud - but
I enjoyed Life is a Highway by the Rascal Flatts), having
a Cafè Latte at the Coffee Bean - we met Lillian and
Phil Perry in a pretty little restaurant between Hollywood
and Sunset Boulevard. Yes, Phil and Lillian drove all the
way down from Fontana to meet us. While
enjoying our meal we talked about the members of his Band
(Melvin Lee Davis, Ray Fuller), their work for others, about
Phil's wish to bring the Band over to Europe but the difficulties
of finding promoters.
Phil
was enthusiastic about his gig at the Long Beach Festival.
He openend the set with "I want you" from his new
CD. Other tracks were "After the dance" as a tribute
to Marvin Gaye, "My Imagination", "People make
the World go round", "Love don't love nobody",
.. . It was big fun talking about the other artists of the
Festival, about his Vocal Work for some of them and my virtual
"Best of" CD. I revealed my favorite Tracks of his
new CD "Classic Love Songs". Yes and I couldn't
restrain begging for some uptempo tracks on the next one.
Lillian just cam back from Vegas organizing Phil's gig at
the Sunset Resort Casino on October, 21st for the [PhilLill
Foundation].
Yes, we missed the sundown on Sunset Boulevard, instead of
this we had a wonderful dinner with two very down to earth
friends. I found a review about Phil's gig @ e Long Beach
Festival: "Singer Phil Perry turned out one of the true
highlights of the whole event. This singer is truly outstanding
and unique, he pours such a tremendous amount of emotion in
every note he sings and conveys the message of the songs in
a deeply touching way. This guy is just on a level that is
breathtaking and after this concert I regard him even higher.

Received some
wonderful eMails as a reaction of "SoulFood" Best
of Phil Perry's Vocal Work. A "Best of" Phil Perry's
Solo Work will follow to make it a virtual Double CD. It may
take a while - I'm on vacation - so please stay tuned for
some big surprises.

Q: How did this album come about, Phil?
Phil Perry: Chris Davis, the producer, asked me if I wanted to do a record of all covers and I said “Sure!”. I’ve worked with him on my records and I enjoyed it. Now on every solo record I’ve ever done I’ve done covers. This, though, is an entire album of covers and it requires a totally different overview as a project, so that was the challenge. There are seven no. 1 songs on this CD and I know they’re great songs. My job was to keep the things on there that made them great. It was about melodies so that’s what I sang. I didn’t want to reinvent the wheel... [Interview]

I just got back from performing in Kuaala Lumpur, Malaysia, and I'm enjoying a short rest before I'm back on the road.

New Album by Phil Perry : Feb-01-2006
Phil Perry's new album will be released in March 2006. It's tentatively scheduled to be called "Falsetto Soul". It's a collection of #1 R&B hits by falsetto singers including Eddie Kendricks, the Stylistics, the ChiLites, Heatwave, Delphonics, Isley Bros., etc. All done in a smooth jazz and Phil Perry style - awesome.
