The group recorded their first single in 1969, which was only distributed in the St. Louis area. They also recorded the highly collectable 'Hey You! Don't Fight It!' on Arch in the late 60's.
Sain arranged for the group to be signed with Paula Records, based in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Their outstanding hits for the label were 'Dreaming Out Of Season' (number 34 R & B) from 1972, 'Beggin' Is Hard To Do' (number 33 on Billboard) and 'Make Up For Lost Time' (number 46 R & B) from 1974.
Their only album, 'Dreamin' Out Of Season', was released in 1972, with the track 'Prelude To A Heartbreak' (number 70 R & B) released as a single the following year.
Their last chart record was 'Baby You Know (I'm Gonna Miss You)' (number 40 on Billboards charts) from 1974.
After the Montclairs left Paula in 1975 they disbanded.

Before Phil Perry earned his reputation as one of the undisputed vocal giants on today's soul jazz scene, he fronted a successful R & B group from the St. Louis area who had a succession of R & B chartmakers (5 in all) in the early 1970s. They were the Montclairs, this is their entire catalogue released in one place on CD for the first time.
PP takes the lead on almost every track here, making our added "featuring" tag more than just a bit of record company hyperbole.
Produced by another soul legend, Oliver Sain, this is exquisite soul balladry in the style of the early Moments and Whatnauts records. Many of the tracks have only previously been released on a long-out-of-print Japanese CD, others are making their CD (in fact, ANY!) reissue debut herein.
